Collecting Vintage Pyrex
Think of the vintage market for costs and prices much like a stock market. Everything goes in ebbs and flows. It all depends on current desire for an item. Something you once paid $100 at an antique mall, may now only be worth $5 because the demand for the product is just not there anymore.
Since 2000 the Pyrex market has been very hot, and some very rare dishes have been popping up for over $15k, yes, for ‘just a dish’. So what makes a piece of Pyrex valuable? Well think of all vintage like a diamond with four impacts on price besides the current market:
Color - More popular colors, are your pinks and aquas.
Clarity - how crisp is the image, was it put through the dishwasher and lost it’s shine and pattern?
Type - is it rare? Or was it popular more mass produced piece?
Condition - is it chipped? What about ‘flea bites’ or scratches on the inside and outside?
Pieces that have chips, large scratches or the dreaded dish washer damage generally have no value to a collector. They look for items that are near pristine.
