Tips for a Successful Market Booth

Aesthetics and a smile are the most important tools for a market, aesthetics are most important for a mall. The location of your booth or stall means absolutely nothing. I have been at the back of a mall or market and done better than the one at the front.

Ensure customers can enter your booth and not knock anything over.

Move the product around, different spots - it’s retail 101, keep rotating product. If you have a hot spot, then put your best items in that spot. Booths that do the best, constantly restock and move items.

Is your price correct for the market you are trying to sell to? Is it an Etsy/Ebay price in a local market or is it fair market value to move the product locally? If you need the price you have it listed for, try selling online. Showcase it on your Instagram/facebook marketplace/Kijiji

Display it completely different – instead of using it as a kitchen item, maybe put a fake plant in it, “suggestive marketing”

MARKET your booth post frequently about your booth, and other booths. Tag each other. Your customer is your fellow mall’s customer and their customer is your customer. Post previews of items you will be brining to the market or mall. Every time you do a refresh, post.

Prevent damage and promote safety Stack items appropriately. Do not put delicate items on top of furniture for sale. If you have items stacked a 100 feet high people will walk by.

Aesthetics, make your booth look like a boutique and not a hoarder flea market. Have shelving that matches the aesthetics and not mismatched. People are attracted to pretty booths and are more likely to spend more money on an item in a pretty booth than dig in a booth that does not spike their interest. Customers like suggestive selling and seeing items in new ways that they would not have thought of.

Tags, make sure they are clear (computer is best), and consistent. White tags are best, perhaps one with your logo. If you are in a mall a tag that is harder to remove will deter theft or tag switching. Note the item accurately from flaws, to year etc. Again aesthetics are key.

Lighting your products appropriate to showcase their beautiful and draw attention to specific areas in your booth can make all the difference from dark and drab to bright and welcoming.
